About
Who this is for
Nepali citizens in the United States whose Nepali passport is expired, has less than one year of validity, has insufficient visa pages, or is lost, stolen, or damaged.
Key current rule
The Embassy's e-passport page says applicants must be physically present at the Embassy for biometrics and that applications by mail are no longer accepted. Do not plan a mail-only renewal.
When you can renew
The Embassy's current page says passport renewal can be done only for expired passports or passports with validity of less than one year. The Embassy FAQ also mentions insufficient visa pages. Book an appointment before visiting.
Renewal document spine
- Complete the online/pre-enrollment application and print the barcode/application details.
- Bring the original passport and copy.
- Bring the original Nepali citizenship card and copy.
- Bring proof of status in the United States, such as Green Card, visa page, or other evidence, plus copy.
- Bring a self-addressed prepaid return envelope if you want the new passport mailed back after processing.
- At the Embassy, complete check-in, document verification, payment, biometrics, and photograph.
Minor or newborn passports
The Embassy lists a separate minor/newborn document set, including birth certificate or Minor Identity Card, citizenship certificates of both parents, parents' marriage certificate, parents' current immigration status, applicant proof of U.S. status, and return envelope if used. Confirm before visiting.
Lost, stolen, or damaged passport
The Embassy lists a separate replacement category. Do not use the ordinary renewal checklist without checking the replacement instructions.
