More years populate as we maintain the calendar. Beyond the table, follow your family's tradition or local pandit.

Why this matters in the US

Nepalese diaspora households mark two new years each year — January 1 (AD) and Baisakh 1 (BS, around April 14). For most US Nepalese families, January 1 is the broader social new year — the one shared with American neighbors and colleagues — while Baisakh 1 retains the deeper cultural anchor. Both are legitimate; many families treat them as different kinds of resets. Worth introducing both to kids growing up here so the BS framework doesn't get lost.
