Roughly 225,000 people identified as Nepalese nationwide in 2023, up 24 percent since 2019, and California is the third-largest state for the community with around 21,000 residents. The Bay Area is a significant and fast-growing center of that population, though it is not among the country's biggest Nepalese metros. Many families have settled in the East Bay, especially El Cerrito and Albany, where Solano Avenue has become a hub of Nepalese restaurants and grocery stores. A Bhutanese-Nepali (Lhotshampa) refugee community is also present in the East Bay, including Oakland.
The community's anchor institutions include the Nepali Association of Northern California (NANC), established in 1994 to promote Nepali culture across the region and the owner of a Nepali Community Center at 369 Chesley Avenue in Richmond, and the Bay Area Nepalese Community in Fremont (BANCF), a Fremont 501(c)(3) that runs Nepali language classes and cultural festivals. This page gathers what's nearby: organizations and temples, restaurants and grocers, upcoming events, and the festival calendar — source links are shown when available.

Documents Getting a driver’s license / state ID as a newcomer In the US, your state's DMV issues your license — so the exact documents, tests, and fees depend on where you live. Almost everywhere you'll pass a written knowledge test and a road test; a state ID (non-driver) is the easier option if you don't plan to drive.
Immigration Bringing your parents to the US (IR-5) If you're a US citizen aged 21 or older, you can petition for your parents to become permanent residents (green-card holders) — the IR-5 category. You file Form I-130 for each parent; after approval it moves to consular processing at the US Embassy in Kathmandu. (Green-card holders cannot petition parents — only citizens can.)
Jobs Gig & 1099 work — what to know about taxes Gig/contract work (rideshare, delivery, freelancing) usually pays you as an independent contractor (1099), not an employee (W-2) — which means no taxes are withheld, so you must set money aside, pay quarterly estimated taxes, and you can deduct legitimate business expenses. (And gig work still requires work authorization — it isn't a loophole around that.) First 90 days newcomer path for IDs, banking, health, work, school, and settling into a US city.
